Buying a Piece of My Heart

1

Today we bought our Charleston house, something I’ve been dreaming about since the first moment I came here to tour the College nearly 15 years ago. The instant love of Charleston is something most people feel, and it’s a big reason why nearly 45 people a day move here to call this beautiful place home!

After graduating and getting engaged, my soon-to-be husband and I chose to venture to the big city of Atlanta for school and job opportunities. Our plan was to stay for two years and then pick the place we’d ultimately call home. But plans are just that…we ended up living in Atlanta for ten traffic-filled years, but I always knew it wasn’t the place I wanted be. It was too crowded, too big, and it never felt like home. I needed something smaller, closer to the water, and a place that felt Southern.

Charleston was always that place for me. Mostly because it was the place I first found my voice. Those years in college you learn a lot about who you are and where you want your life to go.

Charleston was also the place I fell in love. The ever-charming city offered a place for two college sweethearts to find their way. It was, and still is, a friendly place where people smile at you on the street, and for me, it’s a place where I feel like I belong.

Now that we’ve been back for almost a year, I know one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make for my family has ultimately been one of the best. We get to live in this charming place, by the beach, in a town full of friends who are our chosen family, which makes me happy. We are missing a few people who haven’t yet joined us on our adventure, but they will.

It feels good being back where it all started. You just can’t resist this city and what it has to offer. Now, with blessings from above, we get to own a piece of you, Charleston, and we couldn’t be more excited!

Can you relate? Was Charleston always on your mind too?

  1. How exciting! Maybe a follow-up post with details about where you decided to buy, home style, etc.? The Realtor in me loves to hear about that! Congratulations!
