Elf on the Shelf for the Average Mom

Meet our elf on the shelf, Ralph.  He arrives sometime during the Thanksgiving holidays…usually by somehow magically reaching the doorbell and arriving on our doorstep.

25 Elf on the Shelf Ideas from an Average Elf and a Tired Mommy - Palmettos and Pigtails

Now, I stalk Pinterest as much as the rest of you SuperMoms do….and I’d love to be “that” mom.  You know, “that” mom that Santa deemed worthy of sending a “SuperElf.”  You may also know him as “CreativeElf.”  Maybe the “SlightlyMischievousElf.”  Or the “LovesToMakeAHugeMessElf.”  In my opinion, he’s the “HasMoreTimeThanOtherElvesElf.”  The snowball fights, jacuzzi soaks, and snow angels all seem cute…but also seem like a lot of work for the “AverageElf” to think up, and the “AverageMom” to clean up after during this busy season.

So, on the behalf of all the “AverageElves” and moms out there, here’s a list of places that our elf, Ralph, landed last year.  Maybe your {tired} and {overworked} elf will read this blog post and get some ideas…so he can spend less time thinking of the next prank to pull, and more time scouring Pinterest or napping!

Day 1:  Elf arrives magically on doorstep, somehow ringing the impossibly high doorbell.  Or
maybe he just sits on your kitchen table along with the book.
Day 2: Elf sits on the mantle, legs tucked into little arms.
Day 3: Elf ties himself to the hanging bar light with a twist-tie.
Day 4: Elf stuffs himself into a nook in the Christmas tree.
Day 5: Elf hangs from the blinds in a move envied by Cirque du Soleil.
Day 6: Apparently your kids were naughty yesterday because the Elf didn’t move….tell your kids
              that they better straighten up.
Day 7:  Elf sits on top of the sugar canister on the kitchen counter.
Day 8: Elf hangs from ceiling fan….hang on tight, Elfy!
Day 9: Elf peeks out of one of the mantle stockings.
Day 10: Elf “forgets” to move again….apparently he finds it quite cozy in the stocking?
Day 11: Elf loops his arms around the angel at the top of the Christmas tree….keep it clean there,
               Elfy….
Day 12: Halfway to Christmas!  Elf sits on the back of the toilet…what exactly is he watching for
                in there?!?!
Day 13: Elf sits on top of the lamp in the living room.
Day 14:  Elf is still on the lamp….oops! I mean….clean up your act, kids!!
Day 15: Elf sits in the middle of the kitchen table…just to be sure he sees EVERYTHING!
Day 16: Elf tucks himself into the Christmas tree again.
Day 17: Elf likes it in the Christmas tree, so he stays there today too.
Day 18: Elf sits on top of the Nativity Set.
Day 19: Elf tucks himself into the blinds in the children’s playroom.
Day 20: Elf is still in the blinds in the playroom….hard to remember to fly back to Santa when
he’s all the way in there!
Day 21: Elf sits on the reindeer stocking holder on the mantle….and brings a sack from Santa for
the kids to fill up with old toys.

Day 22: Elf sits next to the stove.
Day 23: Elf snuggles into another stocking.
Day 24: Elf sits on the side table in the living room.
Day 25: Elf obviously left when Santa delivered the presents, but he leaves a goodbye note to the
kids, reminding them to be good all year long!

So, if you happen to find that you, too, don’t have a SuperElf…just a run of the mill, AverageElf, like us….hopefully you can pass some of these ideas on to him!  Happy Holidays!
