Mom’s Guide to April {Family Events Around Charleston}

 april eventsThe weather is warming up here in Charleston, which means there is plenty to do!  Open up your planners, you won’t want to miss out on any of these family-friendly events taking place this month. April is full of runs, fundraisers, music, shaggin’, festivals, seafood, pretty much anything that requires being outside in the beautiful Carolina sunshine!  If you know of any events that we may have missed, please leave a comment below.

April 1st: The Cooper River Bridge Run invites everyone to participate in the KIDS RUN in the beautiful Hampton Park. Join us on April 1, the day before the “ big Bridge Run”. Parents are invited to register as well, or they can watch their kids have a blast! To ensure their safety and enjoyment, events for the Kids will range from short distances and up to a mile for the older kids. In addition, there will be a great Party in the park with fabulous activities, food and drinks!

April 2nd: Be a part of an extremely high energy event, the 39th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run!  Visit their website thru the link to read all tips and details regarding this exciting run!

April 2nd: Please join Project Alive & Kicking at 5:30pm for their First Annual fundraising event, “A LowCountry Boil, Baby.”  We are excited to offer entertainment provided by “The Average Savage”, a fabulous dessert by CUPCAKE downsouth, a silent auction featuring many products from local companies in Charleston, and so much more. All proceeds will support our organization and help fund for educational resources for every expecting mom around the world.

Project Alive & Kicking is a local, Charleston-based, 501(c)(3) not for-profit organization with the aim of empowering pregnant women by giving them the tools they need to feel informed and educated during their pregnancies.

Project Alive & Kicking is a non-profit organization to empower expectant mothers by educating them about healthy pregnancies, the possible signs of fetal distress, and the action they can take to help their babies come into the world thriving, alive and kicking

April 3rd: A Lowcountry Cajun Festival  turns 25 this year! Bring your family and friends and come enjoy the festivities at James Island County park. Experience a full day of Louisiana culture with Zydeco music, hot and spicy crawfish, and an all-around ragin’ Cajun good time!
  • $15 per person
  • Free for ages 12 and under
  • Free for Gold Pass Members (Gold Pass must be present for festival admission. Receipt of purchase will not be accepted, Gold Passes will not be sold on-site.
  • No coolers or outside beverages permitted.
  • Pets are not permitted.

April 3rd:  Take your family to learn about our amazing honeybees at the 5th annual Honey & Bee Expo.  Honeybees are rapidly declining; they are responsible for one-third of the food we eat. In the USA alone they pollinate $14 billion in crops and seeds to supply us with fruits, vegetables, nuts, flowers, and more.
Visit this free, fun, family, friendly event to learn more about bees and what you can do to help save them.  Buy local honey, mead-making: sample wine made from local honey.  Meet your local beekeepers!  Observation hive with live bees

April 5th: Spring means fresh local produce!  The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market is where our community meets to share in a vibrant array of locally grown and SC Certified produce and flowers. Stroll through the market to find a bounty of just-picked vegetables and fruits, stunning and fragrant flowers and local seafood plus fresh-cooked meals, baked and canned goods and locally produced snacks. Join us every Tuesday from April through September starting at 3:30 p.m. to mingle with neighbors and visitors alike while enjoying live music and family-friendly activities.  Free parking.

April 6th: “Wine” down your Wednesday, and explore Old Towne Creek County Park, one of West Ashley’s hidden gems. Guests will enjoy wine, hors d’oeuvres, and live music from Chris Dodson while experiencing the beauty of this natural site. A commemorative wine glass is also included with your admission

Online registration will not be available after midnight on the Tuesday before each event. On the day of the event, admission can be purchased by calling 843-795-4386 before 2 p.m. or at the gate for $20. If an event is cancelled or rescheduled due to inclement weather, your receipt will be good for any other CCPRC 2016 Wine Down Wednesday date. You must keep and present your receipt to gain admission into the event of your choice.

April 9th: Once upon a time in a far-away land, costumed creatures gathered for a Character Breakfast at the Children’s Museum of the Lowcountry!
Join us for a meet and greet with more than 20 of your favorite storybook characters, superheroes, fairy tale princesses, local mascots and more! Buffet breakfast included!

April 10th: Come check out the 2nd annual Lowcountry Kids Expo, presented by Absolute Total Care, this FREE expo focuses on sharing essential resources regarding safety, health & wellness, summer camps, special needs, education, child care, and other important family-related topics. Our sponsors and vendors will be sharing information, hosting fun activities at their tables, having giveaways and selling items so be sure to check them all out!

Bring the kids out for a day of fun. Free activities include bounce houses, face painting, stage shows, character meet & greets, crafts and so much more!

April 10th: Charleston’s most exciting shopping and dining district is King Street, the most unique Main Street in the world. Now on the Second Sunday of each month from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, King Street will be closed to vehicle traffic to celebrate Southern Sunday afternoons by welcoming everyone to stroll, shop, dine and enjoy Charleston at its finest

April 12th: Top off your Tuesday with Brewsday! This event will feature live music from Rene Russell, tasty eats from Charleston Choo Food Truck, craft beer, and yoga!  Ticket price includes admission, beer, live music, and yoga. Food truck fare will be available for purchase onsite.  Online registration will not be available after midnight on the Monday before each event. On the day of the event, admission can be purchased by calling 843-795-4386 before 2 p.m. or at the gate for $15.
April 15th-17th: Come check out Charleston Outdoor Fest at James Island County Park. Whether you’re a devoted outdoor sporting enthusiast or just beginning to explore nature’s playground, you’ll find your perfect fit for fun and fitness at this amazing three-day festival. Canoeing, kayaking, paddleboarding, rock climbing, slacklining, mountain biking, archery—even disc golf—there’s something for everyone!
April 21st: Join us for an all-ages event, to see and shop the latest in LuLaRoe fashion all while supporting a great cause! Seven local LuLaRoe consultants are teaming up to showcase our fabulous styles. Mingle with friends, enjoy a few drinks, enter the raffle for freebies, watch our beautiful volunteers strut their stuff down the runway, and then you get to shop, shop, shop! There will be thousands of pieces to try on and take home with you. A portion of all proceeds will benefit the ladies at One80Place who are working hard to regain hope and begin again.

April 23rd:  Come out and enjoy scenic views of the Charleston Harbor while dancing to live classic oldies and beach music at Shaggin’ on the Cooper with Hot Pepper.  All ages are invited to let loose, breathe in the ocean breeze and dance the night away under the stars.

Time: 7:00 PM - 11:00 PM
Time Details: Gates open at 7 p.m. and the music begins at 8 p.m.

April 24th:  The 29th Annual Blessing of the Fleet & Seafood Festival at the Memorial Waterfront Park is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year!  The festival pays tribute to Mount Pleasant’s local shrimping and fishing industry, offering a boat parade, live music, craft show and lots of free activities with the picturesque Ravenel Bridge and Charleston Harbor for a backdrop!

Participants are treated to a boat parade and ceremonial blessing of the shrimp/fishing fleet, savory seafood samplings sold by some of Mount Pleasant’s best restaurants, live music, a craft show, art exhibition, Shag and shrimp-eating contests, and family-friendly activities. Admission and activities are free!

April 30th: We are thrilled to be bringing this fantastic event to Charleston! BLOOM is an event for new and expectant moms that you’re going to love!

This year we are excited to be partnering with City Moms Blog Network and 40 of our other sister sites to bring local communities this event with an estimated attendance of over 3,000+ moms across the US!

This event is geared towards moms who are currently expecting a baby, had a baby within the last year, or are planning on growing their family soon. We are thrilled to host this year’s Bloom event at Pink-A-Blue 4D Ultrasound Studio! This event will provide a morning of light snacks, educational resources, giveaways and swag, and connecting moms and families with relevant local resources!

*PLEASE NOTE: This event is designed for expectant and new mothers. Due to space constraints, we recommend all babies be worn or held as there is no room to accomodate strollers at this event.
