How Charleston Moms Blog Came To Be

On December 24, 2013, I joined an exclusive club. A club filled with women from all walks of life and from all over the world. These women are the diaper changers, the nursers, the boo-boo kissers, the up all-nighters, the cuddlers, the protectors, the disciplinarians, the teachers, the friends. They are selfless and kind, fierce and powerful, gentle and nurturing. They are moms! Becoming a mom has been the most rewarding experience of my life so far, but it has not been without it’s challenges. Motherhood can be isolating! When you begin devoting your life to a tiny little human it’s easy to lose a part of yourself. You’ve all heard the saying, “It takes a village.” Part of that village is other moms to talk, commiserate, and share experiences with.

When my daughter was born, my husband and I were living in Jacksonville, FL. We had no family in Florida and most of our friends didn’t have children yet. When my family went home shortly after her birth and my husband returned to work, I found myself alone with a newborn with no idea what to do. How am I going to keep this little person entertained and happy for 8+ hours every day?! My husband was working very long hours during the first few months of my daughter’s life. When he was home he was a huge help and great company, but he couldn’t always relate to me the way another mom would. I needed someone to talk to who knew how much breastfeeding hurt, who knew the pain of childbirth, and who understood the fear of being an inexperienced first-time mom.

I spent a lot of time nursing my newborn daughter. She refused a bottle so at times it felt like she was constantly nursing. Because of this I made the most of the cluster feedings by browsing the internet on my phone. Enter Jacksonville Moms Blog– I instantly felt a connection. I read their archives and looked forward to their daily posts. Through JMB I learned about My Gym, MOPS, and lots of events that my family and I would attend around town. The site provided me with just what I needed- an excuse to get out of the house and a connection to other moms!

In April of 2015, my family and I moved back to the Charleston area. The last time I lived here I was a young, single (until I met my husband) twenty-something. This time around we are a family of three and I had to get to know this city as a mom. When I was preparing for our move I began researching things to do with my daughter. Charleston has so much to offer for children and families but I was unable to find a resource like JMB that provided all of that information in one place, and built a community where moms could meet and connect. Not one to sit around and wait for things to happen, I did some research and discovered that JMB was a part of the City Moms Blog Network and I could start my own Sister Site. The rest, as they say, is history and Charleston Moms Blog was born!

Our goal at Charleston Mom is to be your go to resource for all things mom. We hope to connect, encourage, and inspire moms as we all walk through this journey of motherhood. Whether you are looking for something to do this weekend, having trouble with potty training, or looking for a new friend, we hope you will come to CMB as a guide.

We are all so lucky to be a part of this exclusive club! Let’s celebrate motherhood for what it is- a wonderful, exciting, scary, and rewarding ride. We hope you enjoy reading CMB. We’re so glad you’re here!
