You’ve Got to Crawl Before You Can Climb {First Annual Charleston Fitness Crawl}

{We’ve partnered with Postpartum Progress to bring you this post. All opinions are our own. We would not promote something we did not believe to be true.}

fitness crawlI was getting copies made of the flyers for the Crawl when a question took me by surprise. “How’re you gonna get all those depressed moms to exercise”, she asked as she handed me my copies.

“When I was depressed the only thing that got me out of the house, without sending me into a full panic attack, was going to my Barre class”, I told her, smiled and offered her a flyer.

The Fitness Crawl, taking place on Saturday, June 11 at 11:30am, is a fundraiser for Postpartum Progress.  It’s a way for us to pay for all of the education, advocacy and support that we offer to moms. It’s also going to be SO. MUCH. FUN. It’s open to everyone – men, women, and parents or not.

Here’s how it works:

Go to our website here and choose your Crawl Route.

On Saturday, June 11, join your fellow crawlers as you experience classes at three different fitness studios around Charleston.

The Classes

You’ll have the option of taking classes at Barre Evolution, CHS Revolution, Charleston Kettlebell Club, Charleston Power Yoga and the International Pilates Center.  Each class will be a multilevel class – so no matter how fit you are (or aren’t) you’ll be challenged and have fun.  This is a great way to sample a workout style that you’re interested in but haven’t had the time to commit to before.

The After Party

Celebrate making it through three classes at our after party, hosted by Palmetto Brewing Co. As congratulations, you’ll get a beer on us!  There will be great door prizes from all of our studios, Fleet Feet, Lululemon, Athleta, 31 Bags, Lularoe, and more! One lucky crawler will win a four-night stay in a vacation rental house on Isle of Palms!

The Cause

Somewhere between 13% and 20% of moms experience a maternal mental illness each year -that’s almost one million moms. Less than 15% of them will seek help.  Suicide is the second leading cause of death in the first year postpartum.  Right now there is a mom you know who thinks that she’s alone. She thinks she’s a horrible mom because she’s suffering. She may even think that she deserves this.  You have a chance to show her she’s not alone, that the pain can end and that she can walk in the light again.

Postpartum Progress is a peer led advocacy and support network working to help every single suffering mom. The Climb Out of the Darkness is our yearly fundraiser and this Fitness Crawl will be our signature event.
