When you’re living in, or coming to, one of the country’s most desired destinations, there is a lot of fun to choose from, no matter what occasion you may be celebrating. Father’s Day is nearing, and planning a staycation or a visit to Charleston is an excellent way to celebrate Dad. We’ve compiled a list of Dad deserved outings in Charleston to help you in planning his special day!

Your Guide to Planning Dad’s Special Day in Charleston

For the Outdoor Dad

The most relaxing places with beautiful sights in Charleston are the beaches! Isle of Palms, Sullivan’s Island, and Folly Beach all offer a promising, fun-filled beach day!

For the Dad looking to get wet, sweat, sight-see, and burn off the calories from his amazing Father’s Day meal, there are a variety of options. Charleston Kayak Nature Adventures and Coastal Expeditions offer kayaking and paddleboard rentals and tours. Tidal Wave Water Sports offers jet ski and boat rentals and parasailing. HydroFly offers the newest water sport, hydrofly, wakeboard and tubing rentals, and boat rentals (check out the Tiki Hut option). Sea Island Adventure Sports offers kite boarding lessons.

For the Dad who wants to explore the city on the water, but with a motor, rent a boat at Tidal Wave Water Sports or the Isle of Palms Marina. Another option to ride around on Charleston’s deep blue is to charter a boat to go inshore or offshore fishing. Hop on TripAdvisor and check out what everyone has to say about the variety of charters available…you can pick the one that best satisfies your needs. If Dad would prefer more of a ride along adventure, a harbor cruise may be an attractive offering. Charleston Sail, Spirit Line Cruises, Adventure Harbor Tours and Palmetto Breeze Aqua Safaris offer great harbor cruise options.

For the Dad who is ready to hang ten, there are several places to rent surfboards, including Odyssey Board Shop, McKevlins Surf Shop, Ocean Surf Shop and Sea Island Adventure Sports

If Dad likes the outdoors, but would like more of an onshore adventure, fly him through the treetops of Charleston at Charleston Zip Line Adventures, or cheer him on while he is climbing to new heights on the rope courses at the Wild Blue Ropes Adventure Park.

For the Dad that Loves Good Food and Brew

Quench Dad’s thirst with some local brew. Some of the local’s favorites include Palmetto Brewing Company, Low Tide Brewing, Westbrook Brewing, Ghost Monkey Brewery, Revelry Brewing, and Coast Brewing.

There are no lack of food options in Charleston. Take Dad to one of the following restaurants for his Father’s Day meal—he is destined to be satisfied: The Tattooed Moose, Halls Chophouse, Lewis BBQ, Leon’s Oyster Shop, The Macintosh, 167 Raw, The Wreck, Basil Thai, and FIG.

For the Sports Enthusiast

Dad can enjoy a cold brewsky and one (or lots more) of the fan-food favorites, including the shrimp and grit corn dog, the chicken and double waffle burger, or the deep-fried pecan pie cheesecake on a stick at the hometown minor league baseball team, the Charleston Riverdogs. If he’s into more of a faster paced sports game, grab tickets to watch the Charleston Battery soccer team!

If Dad prefers to play, instead of watch, a game, Charleston has a long list of golf courses that are above par. A round of golf at Patriots Point Links, Wild Dunes, Charleston National, or the City of Charleston golf course will guarantee a fun time. Grab your best khakis and visit the prestigious courses at Seabrook Island and Kiawah Golf Resort…even earn some brownie points with the wife and invite her along for a day at one their spas.

For the Dad that Loves Entertainment

Let Dad relax to some live music by enjoying some outdoor Barn Jams at Awendaw Green, unwind at The Charleston Pour House, or rock out with the band of the night at The Music Farm.

Give Dad the gift of laughter with a night out at Theater 99, one of the Lowcountry’s most favored comedy venues. The Improv Riot is absolutely hilarious!

I hope this list helps in planning your day to spoil Dear Ole’ Dad. And Mama’s…shhh…this list also contains a lot of fun for you and the whole family. Have fun and happy Father’s Day to the great Dad’s in your life!
