There is no shortage of fun, family-friendly events going on around Charleston this holiday season! For all of you dance lovers, or those just looking to experience the beauty and grace of the ballet, you are in luck because the Nutcracker, a beloved classic, is heading to Charleston!

As holiday time approaches, the South Carolina Ballet is in full gear to perform their award-winning Nutcracker performance for their 57th season. Executive and Artistic Director, William Starrett, has created a captivating show that will waltz into the Sottile Theatre stage for one terrific performance on December 1 at 7:30 p.m.

The timeless choreography, intricate sets, and beautiful costumes can be compared to the same caliber as a Broadway show. The company’s 31 professional dancers will share the stage with over 200 talented children, ages 4 to 18, making it an unforgettable holiday treat. “There are full professional sets and scenery and costumes. This isn’t just a ‘go to it because your neighbor is in it’ kind of thing — it’s a full professional, once-in-a-lifetime holiday experience,” says Starrett.

The Nutcracker tells the magical story of a young girl exploring the Land of Sweets and all the characters she meets along the way. From dancing toys, mischievous mice, and the beautiful Sugar Plum fairy, this is a spectacle you won’t want to miss. Columbia City Ballet’s Nutcracker has performed for over five decades making it South Carolina’s longest running performing arts event with performances reaching over seven cities.
