Summer is here and so are the festivals! Summer in Charleston is the perfect time to soak up the sun and enjoy a walk through some of the most vibrant and family-friendly festivals. Here is your guide for all of the festival fun around Charleston this summer.

Charleston Mt. Pleasant Arts Festival

This Memorial Day weekend, we’re bringing the art to them during the Charleston – Mt Pleasant Art Festival with Craft Marketplace. The largest suburban town in the state, the Mount Pleasant shopping district is located at the gateway to the affluent Isle of Palms and Sullivan’s Island.

If you have an older child or teenager who aspires to be a professional artist, the internationally recognized Spoleto Festival is for you and your family. With an array of performances by both established artists and new performers in dance, jazz music, opera, theater and more, it is one of the more all encompassing performing arts festivals in Charleston.
Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival
Mt. Pleasant Waterfront Park | 99 Harry Hallman Boulevard, Mount Pleasant

Celebrate the Gullah Geechee cultural heritage with this annual festival. Enjoy food from local vendors, shop more than 20 basket makers and other artisans, and take some time to learn about the Gullah culture through the basket making demonstrations and storytelling.
Charleston Carifest Carnival Street Parada
Brittle Bank Park | 181 Lockwood Drive, Charleston
$10/Adults & Children 12 and Under FREE
Experience the vibrant and colorful Caribbean Carnival costumes at this year’s Carifest Carnival Parade. The parade begins at 4 p.m. from John street and heads to Brittle Bank Park where there will be carnival villages. Enjoy Caribbean food vendors, arts and crafts, and a kiddie zone.

StoryfestSC is the the annual summer reading kick-off event for families. The festival exposes families to children’s authors and the art of story, and fosters an excitement for reading. When you return home to Charleston, you’ll be able to keep the excitement for the festival alive as all South Carolina public libraries participate in this coordinated summer reading program.
Beaufort Water Festival

The 62nd Annual Beaufort Water Festival is one of the longer standing festivals in the area. During the festival, families can enjoy The Parris Island Marine Band and fireworks during the opening ceremony, or visit the Festival Arts & Crafts Market on Saturday.
