10 Unique Skills Mothers of Young Children Acquire

Motherhood came with a large learning curve. Many of my lessons have become life-lessons. Invaluable pieces of knowledge learned about myself, my capabilities, and my strength that will shape me forever. Then there are the “unique” skills I’ve acquired. Skills that, to be honest, will never grace any resume.

Here’s my list of the top 10 talents mothers of young children possess:

  1. Stealth Mode – the amazing ability to sneak around when a baby is sleeping
  2. Correctly naming all construction trucks on a site – “Look at that front end loader, steam roller, excavator and crane!”
  3. Scavenging skills are top notch – “Mom where’s my truck? Shoes? Pants?” I can find anything within five minutes as long as it is in my house or car
  4. Breastfeeding while cooking – because how else will I get dinner made?
  5. Knowing the theme song to Doc McStuffins, Blaze, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and every song in Frozen (Is this impressive or just sad?)
  6. Changing a diaper in the dark
  7. Peeing ridiculously fast – when you leave a toddler alone, you learn to make it quick
  8. Buckling and moving a car seat in record time – never realized this was a skill until the grandparents came to visit
  9. Dominating Baby Shower Games – Guess the price of diapers, baby bath and wipes? I got this!
  10. Loss of gag reflex – because if I vomited every time I cleaned throw up, poop or worse, diarrhea, it would just create more of a mess I’d then have to clean

What would you add to the list?
