Warmer weather, flowers blooming, and the Teddy Bear Picnic…all signs that spring is (almost) here in Charleston! Have you ever brought your family to the Teddy Bear Picnic put on by the Charleston Parks Conservancy? I took my two little boys last year and we LOVED IT!

Before we went, I didn’t really know what the Teddy Bear Picnic was, or even what to expect. We were just looking for something to do that weekend, so we packed up our teddy bears and headed to Hampton Park to check it out!

First, is there a prettier park than Hampton Park? It’s the perfect location for a picnic! Especially when it’s a picnic filled with live music, food trucks, face painting, and the cutest little kids with their favorite stuffed animals. Our family had the best time listening to the music while my toddler danced with his teddy and attempted to hula hoop. My baby loved being propped up with his brother’s animals so mom could get this cute photo to share on Instagram (ha!).

This year’s Teddy Bear Picnic is on March 4th from 1:30-4pm at Hampton Park and you better believe that we are going! Now that I know what to expect, I wanted to get my kids excited about the picnic before the big day. The Charleston Parks Conservancy Park Angels wrote a very sweet book about Parker Bear (who is the star of the picnic) called, “Here, There, and Everywhere with Parker Bear”. It follows Parker Bear as he explores Charleston parks on his way to the Teddy Bear Picnic – so cute! My boys loved the pictures, clever rhymes, and my older boy even recognized some of the parks!

At this year’s picnic, we’re looking forward to meeting Parker Bear, decorating cookies, planting seeds, and dancing our little booties off to the music! But there’s even more to do than that! Check out CharlestonParksConservancy.org to learn more about the event and purchase your own Parker Bear book!

A spring day, great music, yummy food, and quality time with your kiddos. What’s better than that? Oh yeah, it’s totally free! See you there!
