Choosing a daycare for your child can be one of the most daunting tasks that a new parent faces. Leaving your child in the care of another adult, outside of a family member, can leave even the strongest mama in a state of panic, tears, and worry. You and this tiny human that you created have hardly been apart, and now you’re just expected to drop them off with strangers and be…okay?? Cue the tears.

Fortunately, the childcare options we have these days are so much more than just a place to drop off your kid while you go to work. They are full of learning, social interaction, and teachers well-equipped to step in for you while you hustle to build your career. Here in the Charleston area, there’s a good chance that you’ve passed by a La Petite Academy since there are half a dozen in the Lowcountry. Their website is chock full of great information that you’ll need when trying to find the best childcare option for your child. Because we are all busy mamas, we are highlighting just a few of the many wonderful reasons La Petite Academy is a popular choice for chilcare among families in the Charleston area.

Highly-trained teachers

Who you are leaving your child with is, without a doubt, one of the the most important factors when looking at childcare options. You want to know that your child will be safe, cared for, and in the right environment to learn and grow, both academically and socially. At La Petite Academy, teachers are given through background checks, meet all state-certified child-care requirements, and receive ongoing professional development training.

Classrooms designed specifically for your child’s age group

Children are placed in different classrooms based on their age and each classroom is designed with the specific developmental needs of that age group, starting with infants and going all the way up through private kindergarten. The curriculum for infants and toddlers, Learn from the Start™ allows a child to feel warm and safe, while providing more hands-on immersion as a child becomes more mobile. The preschool classroom builds on these skills while also adding the necessary components to become kindergarten ready. With a STEM-focused education starting in the preschool classrooms, children get hands-on experience to help become critical thinkers and problem solvers. A focus on health & nutrition

We all know that healthy practices need to start young, and as parents, we could use all the reinforcement we can get to make these practices become habits both in and outside of the home. One of the most inspiring things about La Petite Academy is that they are part of the Grow Fit® program that encourages balanced nutrition and physical activity in early childhood. Through their participation in Partnership for a Healthier America, they have 1-2 hours of physical activity built into their schedule every day, serve fruits & veggies with at least two snacks/meals (and no fried food), and encourage kids to try a variety of healthy foods. If you are a breastfeeding mom, you are welcome to breastfeed during school time.

*Bonus: As a way to encourage a healthy lifestyle at home, La Petite Academy has a great list of healthy recipes on their blog!

Innovative extracurricular activities

Aside from the rich STEM-focused curriculum that La Petite Academy uses in their classrooms, there are also creative extracurricular activities done in small group settings. These includes Spotlight on Spanish, Grow Fit® Yoga, Chess, Computers, Dance, and so much more! There are also before and after school programs for school-aged children that focus on goal-setting and reflection, as well as homework support, team-building opportunities, and physical activity.

Drop-in and flexible care options

For those of us with less structured schedules, or who just need occasional care, La Petite Academy offers the option to purchase child care days in advance to use as you need. You can purchase prepaid cards in five-day increments through your school, and each is good for one full year. There is no limit to how many days you can purchase in advance. There are also summer camps and programs for children aged six weeks to five years.
