Welcome to April! Spring is finally here and we have plenty of fun, family-friendly events going on around Charleston to check out. 2018 Volvo Car Open

Every spring, the Volvo Car Open welcomes close to 90,000 spectators and more than 100 of the best women athletes, including US Open champion Sloane Stephens, Madison Keys, two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova, No. 8 Caroline Garcia, No. 9 Johanna Konta & many more to Daniel Island.

Spring Break at The Charleston Museum

Travel millions of years through history to learn about prehistoric Charleston and the amazing creatures that once lived here! Explore rocks, fossils, skeletons, and mounts in our Bunting Natural History Gallery. Learn about early cultures by exploring mummies, tools, pottery, and more with our extensive collection. Each day will focus on a different theme. Sign up for half days, full days, or for the entire week. Full days run from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm and requires kids to bring their own lunch. Half day sessions are either 9:00 am – 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Reservations are required.

Disney Junior Dance Party on Tour

Sing along to Disney Junior’s greatest hits with your favorite characters: Mickey and the Roadster Racers, Sofia The First, Puppy Dog Pals, Elena of Avalor, Doc McStuffins, Vampirina, The Lion Guard and more! Preschoolers and their families are invited to get up and dance, play games and join the biggest dance party around!

Tuesday, April 3

Season Opening day at the Mt. Pleasant Farmers Market

The weekly market features vendors selling local farm-fresh produce, meats, sauces, baked goods and other specialty foods, as well as three prepared food vendors for those looking for a unique meal.

Protect What You Love: Sea Turtle Conservation

Join us at the Johns Island Regional Library to learn how you can help save sea turtles. Hear how the South Carolina Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Care Center provides medical treatment to sick and inured sea turtles. Watch Kiawah Conservancy’s award-winning sea turtle documentary, and see how the Kiawah Turtle Patrol assists with sea turtle preservation. The Charleston County Public Library is giving away reusable bags at this event to support efforts in keeping plastics out of our oceans and local waterways.

Ahoy, Mermaids & Pirates

Visiting from Weeki Wachee Springs, Florida, these underwater performers will delight both the young and the young at heart. Live mermaids will fascinate guests with a choreographed routine to musical numbers. This year, guests will also enjoy special dives featuring pirates! All included with Aquarium admission. The fin-tastic activities don’t end there. Mermaids will be available for photo opportunities, so be sure to get a unique souvenir by which to remember your Aquarium visit. Guests may also participate in mermaid and pirate-themed activities and interactive education stations focused on conservation efforts to sustain the beauty of the ocean.

Cooper River Bridge Run Kids Run & Wonderfest

The Kids Run & Wonderfest takes place in beautiful Hampton Park in downtown Charleston, SC and is held the day before the Cooper River Bridge Run. It caters to kids up to 13 years of age and their families. Some of the activities are Face Painting, Jump Castles, Live Musical Performances, Live Magic Show, Arts & Crafts, Kids Petting Zoo, Pony Rides, Climbing Wall, Child entrepreneurs with their products and more!

Flowertown Festival

Now in it’s 45th year, the Flowertown Festival has become one of the Southeast’s largest arts and crafts festivals. With local art, area restaurants and vendors, and a Kids Fest, there is something for everyone in your family!

A Kickin’ BBQ Pickin’

Project Alive & Kicking, which helps empower expectant mothers by educating them about healthy pregnancies, possible signs of fetal distress, and action they can take, is hosting their second annual fundraiser. The event will feature authentic BBQ, live music, a silent auction, and local food and drinks.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in Concert

Audiences will be able to relive the magical adventure of Harry Potter’s second year at school like never before. This concert features Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in high-definition while The Charleston Symphony performs John Williams’ otherworldly score. Experience the wonder of talking spiders, scolding letters, and giant snakes all over again!

Cooper River Bridge Run

Don’t miss out on this classic Charleston 10K run that raises funds for public education. There is also a kids fun run and Wonderfest that takes place the day before the bridge run. Check out the website for a complete listing of all of the weekend’s events!

4th Annual Lowcountry Kids Expo & Summer Camp Fair

The Lowcountry Kids Expo & Summer Camp Fair is right around the corner! Be sure to stop in on Sunday, April 8th from 12:00-5:00 pm to enjoy a fun-filled day with the family. Charleston Honey & Bee Expo

Fun is Good Golf Tournament

Top o’ the mornin’ to ya laddies! Come out for the Charleston RiverDogs Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, April 10th at Wild Dunes. Grab your shamrocks and head to the green. Who knows, you may get lucky and find a pot of gold.

1st Annual RMHC Charleston Plane Pull-Do You Have What It Takes?

On the flight deck of the USS Yorktown, teams of 10 will compete to pull the F-18 Hornet weighing ≈18,000 pounds the fastest over 100 feet. Teams will face elimination rounds until the final playoff! Fundraising Goal of $2,500 for each team.

Sunday, April 15

USS Yorktown 75th Anniversary

The celebration will include a re-enactment of the christening with Nancy Ireland Roosevelt, the granddaughter of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt. Mrs. Roosevelt sponsored the USS Yorktown and led the christening of the ship on 21 January 1943. The re-enactment will occur at 2 p.m. From 3-4:30 p.m. veterans of the USS Yorktown will participate in a “Meet & Greet” session with visitors aboard their beloved ship. They will sign a limited edition, commemorative poster for each guest. Admission for the christening re-enactment is free and open to the public.

Alice in Wonderland

Ballet Academy of Charleston is again presenting their original adaptation of the beloved classic. The James Island Junior Theater Presents: “Peter Pan Jr.”!

Wendy Darling loves to tell stories to her brothers, Michael and John. But when her father announces she must move out of the nursery, Peter Pan comes to visit the children and whisks them away to Neverland. Their journey introduces them to the Lost Boys, Mermaids, Indians and even the infamous pirate, Captain Hook! It’s Peter to the rescue when Wendy is taken captive by the dreaded captain, who has his own sinister plans in mind for our hero. JIJT productions are for audience members age 4 and up.
