Welcome to week 3 of the Family Health Challenge. This week we will focus on SALT!

Did you know that 9 out of every 10 kids consumes too much salt on a daily basis? That means it is very likely that your children are consuming too much salt. Most of the daily salt intake comes from pre-prepared foods found in the grocery store, at restaurants or from school cafeterias. And at home, most salt comes from salt already found in foods, not necessarily from the salt shaker.  So an obvious first step is to limit the additional salt added to foods. However, to have a greater impact it is important to take a closer look at nutritional labels of foods you buy and consume.

Nutritional labels (newly updated in mid-2016) provide a clearer display of the serving sizes per container and the sodium intake per serving.  There are common culprits that quickly add to the daily intake of salt:salty-six-for-kids
