My daughter and I were recently in a car accident and while we are both okay, it made me realize what a distraction children can be while you are driving. Honestly, how many times have you turned or reached back to try and calm or hand something to a child. Not to mention the countless […]

I was helping my 4-year-old wash her hands in the bathroom at an airport when I was taken aback by possibly the rudest question a stranger has ever asked me: “Number two?,” said a voice with a casualness that left me a bit speechless. It was just a Number one, but WHY did anyone want […]
My darling son has just established that he can turn down food. Yes, I have a picky eater. I’ve heard stories about picky eaters. You know, the stories where you offer your child everything under the sun just to get them to eat something. The stories where you take bites of their food, or pretend […]
First of all, you aren’t the dummy. I’m the dummy. After my toddler had his third skinned knee in a period of two weeks, I realized that I have zero clue what I’m supposed to do about it. Let it air out? Bandage it up? Neosporin? I don’t really know! When I saw a boy […]

I was attempting to nurse and put my seven-month-old down for bed and my three-year-old was playing […]
I was sitting at a work lunch when my phone rang. My daughter’s school was calling. I thought it was the nurse’s office because that morning she said her stomach had been hurting. On the second ring my mind jumped to a very dark place. I thought her school was under attack. In the moment, […]

When I was growing up, my parents had two TV’s in our home and my mom had a cell phone in her car (it was literally built into the car). Neither TV had cable because my parents didn’t want us glued to it. They encouraged us at any time of day to go outside to […]
Mama, I know it’s easier sometimes to just stay home. I know you probably didn’t take a shower this morning and you don’t want to put on real clothes. I know you were up all night with a hungry baby and you don’t feel like making small talk with anyone. Believe me, I know it […]
